Softball Clinic

The University of North Dakota softball team is hosting three winter camp sessions on Jan. 28-29. Campers can develop fundamentals of hitting, fielding, and pitching and catching from UND coaches and student-athletes.

• Hitting - Jan. 28 (9 a.m.-12 p.m.)
• Fielding - Jan. 28 (1-4 p.m.)
• Pitching and Catching - Jan. 29 (10 a.m.-1 p.m.)

Cost for each session is $40. It is open to ages 8-17 (seniors in high school).

Register for two sessions and save $10. Register for all three and save $20.

Wear indoor shoes ' no cleats

• Interactive Catching Camp that focuses on advanced Receiving, Blocking, Fielding, and Throwing techniques.

• Also learn the skills involved in bunt coverages, covering home plate, pitch calling, and on-field leadership.

• Bring your own Catcher's gear, mitt, softball or sweat pants, and a towel.

• Work with NIACC Softball's coaching staff and current college players.

Intended for experienced softball players to work on advanced skills. Must be able to handle sharply hit grounders and high velocity throws.

• Mechanics of hitting, bunting and slap hitting
• Drills to correct and improve all parts of the swing

Session II: Advanced Defense

Skills to be covered:

• Advanced mechanics of position specific infield and outfield play
• Advanced team defense strategies

Session III: Advanced Pitching
1:30 PM - 3 PM (Registration at 1:15 PM)
ENROLLMENT IS LIMITED TO 20 PITCHERS

PREREQUISITE: MUST BE ABLE TO THROW FASTBALL AND CHANGE-UP CONSISTENTLY

Skills to be covered:

• Techniques of advanced pitches
• Progressive drills for advanced pitches
• Mental aspects of pitching and pitch selection
• Athletes will have the opportunity to learn one new pitch

Pitchers are encouraged to bring their own ball catchers and catching equipment (no fee for catchers to attend).

Intended for less experienced players to improve their fundamentals. For safety and learning purposes, players may be divided based on skill level during portions of the clinics.

• Introduce basic pitching fundamentals or refine pitching techniques (fastball & change-up)
•  Pitching progressions

Catching: ♦Throwing mechanics and footwork ♦Receiving/framing and pitch calling ♦Blocking ♦Plays at the plate ♦Pick offs and throw downs ♦Catchers will work with and without pitchers

Hitting: ♦Basic hitting principles ♦Variety of drills ranging from dry swings and tee work to pitching machine work ♦Bat control--bunting and location hitting ♦Hitting for power ♦Situational hitting ♦Development of change up and movement pitches

Defensive Skills: ♦Throwing mechanics ♦Ground ball mechanics and footwork ♦Position play ♦Outfield Throwing Mechanics ♦Outfield angles and drop steps ♦Outfield communication

Location: Burns Wellness Center on the campus of CSS.

What to Bring: Indoor, non-marking shoes, bat and helmet, CATCHER-bring full catchers gear.
